Increase NEC2 handling capability?

I would like to know how to increase the segment handling capability of NEC2.
I wonder if changing of the IRESRV and LD parameters of NEC2 source code to a
larger number would help or what other parameters need to be changed? I have
a SUN4OS4.12 system, plenty of memory. Thanks!
