Buzz Shaw's note re corrosion reminds me of a visit I made many years ago
to the South African Weather station on Marion Island, one of the Prince
Edward Islands in the South Indian Ocean. The object of the visit was to
inspect the recently re-establised ionospheric station. One of the guys
had the bright idea of using copper wire to stay a small aluminum mast.
The weather however is very wet (100 inches of rain per year if I remember
correctly), and within a month the corrosion had chewed through the mast
sufficiently for catostrophic failure to occur.

Have a great day all of you. Duncan Baker.
