I have Designed a Hand Held portable DF for 121.5MHz & 243 MHz

This Device is very unique and after looking at the antenna system
Trivial is the last word I would use to describe it. There are trivial
type DF antenna's that are available through many source's. The
receiver sensitivity it typically -120dBm.
As with most EPIRB's it is AM modulation that your Df'in on.
