Justin,

NEC can be used very effectively for EMP analysis by analyzing the
response of the structure in the frequency domain, convoluting the
result with the frequency domain of the EMP, and then using an inverse
fast Fourier transform to get the time domain response.

Several excellent papers on this published by Marc Dion and Satish
Kashyap are:

"Analysis of EMP response of Structures using Frequency Domain
Electromagnetic Interaction Codes", Defense Research Establishment
Ottawa, Report # 10798, dated May 1991

"Some Considerations on the use of NEC for Computing EMP Response",
Defense Research Establishment, Ottawa. (I do not have the abstract
information for this paper).

"Computation and measurement of EMP response of antennas" Antennas and
Propagation Society International Symposium, 1989. AP-S. Digest Volume ,
Issue , 26-30 Jun 1989 Page(s):590 - 593 vol.2

Subject: NEC-LIST: Modeling an EMP using NEC

All,

I'm trying to model an EMP using NEC in order to calculate the coupling
to an antenna. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on
how to go about doing this? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Regards,
Justin L. McKinnerney
