Range Test

I am looking for procedure(s) to test the long range of an antenna.
Something like required equipment, standard antennas used, measuring
equipment (volt/watt meters).

I don't have background in practical antenna measurements, although I have
fairly good knowledge about theoretical modeling.

I hope that this is the correct place to post this question.
