Good day John.

You should get many responses to this. The main problem is to limit
the sky-wave contribution to the received signal at night. Absorption
is low, and reflection occurs very low in the night ionosphere. The
trick employed, as reported in the literature, is to use monopoles
with reduced skywave gain. In my ready file I have the following

1) "MF broadcast antenna systems" by C Pettit. This appears to be
a Marconi Communications Systems Limited report. Unfortunately the
secretary who copied it for me many years ago did not copy the
reference page.

2) "Improved low-height antifading medium-wave antenna," WS Davies,
Proc IEE Vol. 124, No 8, pp. 673-680, Aug. 1977.

3) "MF digital AM station antennas," V Trainotti, IEEE Trans
Broadcasting, Vol. 45, pp. 30-77, 1999.

4) "LF and MF broadcast antenna systems: A new look at an old art,"
Technology for Communications International Technical Note No. 6, Oct.
1978.

If you have problems tracing these, please let me know.

Best regards,
Duncan Baker.
