Concerning the question about using NEC for field animation:

The most straightforward way of doing this is to compute the complex values
of whatever quantities are of interest (current, charge, near E-field, near
H-field, etc) and then to obtain their real parts as a function of time by
permitting the time phasor to rotate through one, or more, cycles. This
operation leads to a sequence of results that can be plotted graphically to
show the dynamics of that quantity over as many cycles of the time-harmonic
behavior as desired.

Fred Deadrick and I presented some results using this approach back in the
1970s [F. J. Deadrick and E. K. Miller (1976), "Near-Field Energy Flow and
Radiation", 1976 USNC-URSI Annual Meeting, University of Massachusetts,
Amherst, MA, October 11-15]. Much later an article was published in the
IEEE AP-S Magazine that provided more information about this [E. K. Miller
and F. J. Deadrick (2000), ³Visualizing Near-Field Energy Flow and
Radiation,² IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Magazine, Vol. 42, No. 6,
pp. 46-54]. The article is available in .pdf format to anyone who might
like to see it.
